Prof. Seda Keskin Avcı, Chemicaland BiologicalEngineering, has been selected for the 2023 Mediterranean Science Team of the Mediterranean Researchers’ Night (MEDNIGHT), organized by the European Union’s Horizon Europe Program to support female scientists in the Mediterranean basin. The program focuses on science, technology, health, climate change and marine sciences for the future. MEDNIGHT hopes that this year’steam will be an incentive for girls from the Mediterranean to pursue careers in science.

Seda Keskin Avcı, whose research expertise is in atomically-detailed simulations of new generation nanoporous materials for energy applications, was the recipient of L’Oréal-UNESCO Young Women in Science Award, Turkish Academy of Sciences Distinguished Young Scientist Award (TÜBA-GEBİP), The Science Academy Young Scientists Award (BAGEP), TÜBİTAK Encouragement Award, Parlar Foundation Research Incentive Award, FABED Outstanding Achievement Award, and Koç University Outstanding Faculty Award. She received the European Research Council’s ERC-Starting Grant in 2017, the first grant awarded to a woman engineer in Turkey. She was elected to the Global Young Academy as the representative of Turkey. Additionally, she was selected for the list of “The World’s 20 Most Extraordinary Women of Science” by ChERD (Chemical Engineering Research and Design).”
