The 2022 TÜSEB Aziz Sancar Science Award, named after Turkish Nobel Laurate Prof. Aziz Sancar and given to scientists who have made significant contributions to health sciences and technology at an international level, was awarded to Prof. Halil Kavaklı from the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering for his research on DNA repair and circadian rhythm.

Professor Kavaklı continues his studies on the biological clock with the funds provided by TÜBİTAK, TÜBA, and the European Community. He received the TÜBA-Outstanding Young Scientist Award (GEBİP) and FABED Eser Tümen Outstanding Achievement Award. With over 60 works published in international magazines and books, he also worked as an editor for many scientific journals.

The 2022 TÜSEB Encouragement Award, given to scientists under the age of 40 whose work has demonstrated their potential to make significant contributions to science at an international level, went to Assoc. Prof. Sedat Nizamoğlu from the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering for his promising work on photomedicine and bioelectronics.

Dr. Nizamoğlu’s research aim is to propose, develop, and demonstrate novel and useful bioelectronic, nanophotonic and optoelectronic devices and interfaces for the applications to energy, medicine, and environment.
